Bio

Artistic Director: Lisa Mills

Lisa Mills is a former International Theatre Director and Actor. After working as a deaf actor with the Australian Theatre of the Deaf Company Lisa progressed to become an established international theatre director / workshop leader for deaf and hearing youth between 2000 -– 2006. During this time, Lisa worked for Arts Council England as a Deaf Arts Consultant, which involved increasing awareness of Deaf issues and promoting the work of Deaf Artists to regularly funded mainstream arts venues. She also delivered two highly successful Arts and Culture for Development projects for the British Council in East Africa in 2001 and again in South India in 2004. In 2005, Lisa formally qualified her interests in teaching yoga by achieving a 200-hr yoga teaching certificate with the reputable 'Yoga Arts' company based in Byron Bay. In 2007, Lisa became a published author of the visually stunning hardcover coffee table book entitled 'Look at Me: Deaf Awareness'. In 2009, Lisa completed a postgraduate diploma in education degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast. She qualifed as a middle years teacher with specialist subjects in art and drama. Lisa went on to teach art, drama and english in Fiji; year 1 in London and special education in Australia's Cape York. In 2010, Lisa directed four theatre-in-education shows for the Australian Theatre of the Deaf Company - Australia's only professional deaf theatre company. Today Lisa currently works as a contract teacher in schools with various groups of young children; as well as providing Auslan / Creative Arts / Yoga training / consultancy in her Honeybee Creations Studio on the Sunshine Coast. She also has some new interests which is teaching sign language to her Kelpie dog; and planning a wedding with her long-time British deaf partner!Due to the wide age groups Lisa has taught to over the years, Lisa is highly skilled and confident to teach all ages, from babies to adults, in her business activities. Auslan is the language of approximately 15,000 Deaf Australians. Statistics show one in every six Australians have some degree of hearing loss. Auslan is a visual language and growing in popularity. Book Honeybee Creations to host a 'Fairy Wonderland' party for your kids in your venue or in Honeybee Creations very own studio on Sugar Road in Maroochydore. For 1.5-hours, all kids will take a fairy pledge with the fairy queen; be pampered at the fairy salon; visit the fairy forest for storytelling & twirling of ribbon wands; go on a fairy treasure hunt; join the fairy queen on fun mats for some delightful fairy yoga; play pass the fairy treasures box & fairy snap / matching cards game; catch fairy bubbles; meet the fairy queen's enchanting puppet and receive a delightful pink balloon to take home. There are also lots of optional extras you can request for your child’'s fairy party such as: Professional photography ($150.00); face painting ($90.00); drama role-play ($50.00); games & prizes ($50.00); fairy piñata ($50.00); lolly bags ($50.00); birthday cake ($50.00); art & craft activities e.g., make a special fairy bottle filled with fairy dust or create fairy bags ($90.00), or you choose. For optional extras please allow an extra 30-minutes for the party - making it at least 2-hours total with the Fairy Queen. If you are having the party in our studio we are happy to give you the studio an extra 1-hour before the party starts for setting up food and drinks (which you will provide); opening presents etc. And also an extra 1-hour after the fairy queen has departed so the kids may eat some more or watch a fairy dvd (via Honeybee Creations HD projector & quality sound speakers) and to pack-up. Indeed, there is lots of fun to be had! Kids will be magically enchanted! Prices start from $295.00 for a 1.5-hour party party on the Sunshine Coast for up to 15x children - in your venue or in our studio. If we are hosting the party in our studio, parents may drop off their children and return to pick them up at the end of the party. Or they may stay & mingle in another of our rooms near to the studio or they may accompany their children in the studio. If parents choose to accompany their children in the studio we can up to 10x children - this way we can ensure there is sufficient space for everyone. Lisa Mills currently holds an internationally recognised 200-hour level 1 yoga teacher training certificate and a level 1 & 2 'Radiant Child' yoga teacher training certificate. Lisa recently added to these qualifications by doing an intensive 7-day 'Yoga for the Special Child' teacher training course in Melbourne with an internationally renowned yoga teacher from London. Lisa is now the 2nd Queenslander to get this unique 'Special Child' yoga teaching qualification and looks forward to putting these skills into practise with your special needs child. Children with downs sydrome, cerebal palsy, ASD, ADHD, hearing impairment and more will benefit from Lisa's 'Yoga for the Special Child' training. Lisa recently conducted yoga for special needs kids workshops at the 'Is everyone here?' Disability Awareness Day event hosted by the Sunshine Coast Children's Therapy Centre. Her workshops were a great success! Lisa is also a qualified school teacher with experience in teaching early intervention (18months to 5y.o), prep and year 1. Lisa also has experience in teaching art and drama to older students including highschool aged students. Therefore, Lisa is highly capable of teaching to children of all ages including teenagers. Lisa Mills, Artistic Director / Founder of Honeybee Creations, is a former international youth theatre director. She has taught drama, art and combined arts to children in leading theatre venues in the United Kingdom and in developing countries such as India, Fiji and Uganda (Africa). She has directed theatre-in-education shows for the Australian Theatre of the Deaf Company. Lisa has a bachelor of Arts in Drama and Art. Due to her hearing loss she has a keen interest in movement which has lead to further training in mime, yoga and Auslan (Australian Sign Language). In recent years Lisa has also become a fully registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers. Lisa has an excellent repertoire of creative arts skills to bring to your children. For Yoga for Kids (up to 30x children) prices are $75 for 30-minutes or $130 for 1-hour. For private tuition including Yoga Therapy for Special Needs Kids (1:1) prices are $60 for initial consultation and then for follow-up private tuition sessions prices are $50 for 30 to 60-minutes.
For Creative Arts Workshops of your choice (up to 30x children) prices are $150 for 1-hour or $220.00 for 2-hours or $290.00 for 3-hours (half-day) or $390.00 for 4-hours (full-day). These workshops can be broken up into 1-hourly workshops catering to more than 1-group of 30x children whilst allowing for refreshment / lunch breaks or group changeover times.

This playgroup (for babies 6months old and up to 3years old) will commence again in TERM 2 (2012). Watch this space for dates and times. Young siblings over 3years old are also welcome!Honeybee Creations Studio is a wonderful setting for this activity with great natural lighting, cushioned mats for play, split air conditioner, tea and coffee facilities, onsite carparking and a bus stop out the front. Some activities, mums and babies / toddlers will participate in this playgroup are: Baby Signing (using actions to accompany voice to develop language and fine motor skills in toddlers), Baby Sign-Singing, Baby Yoga, Baby Puppets, Baby Parachute, Baby Bubbles and Baby Play! Venue: Honeybee Creations Studio (open during scheduled class times only), 81 Sugar Rd, Maroochydore. (Bus stop located at the front. Private business car park located at the back. Please drive through the side gates. The side gates will be opened 15-minutes before classes begin). Each weekly class is $10 / mum & bub for drop-in visits. Lisa Mills, Artistic Director / Founder of Honeybee Creations, is former international youth theatre director. She has taught drama, art and combined arts to children in leading theatre venues in the United Kingdom and in developing countries such as India, Fiji and Uganda (Africa). She has directed theatre-in-education shows for the Australian Theatre of the Deaf Company. Lisa has a bachelor of Arts in Drama and Art. Due to her hearing loss she has a keen interest in movement which has lead to further training in mime, yoga and Auslan (Australian Sign Language). In recent years Lisa has also become a fully registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers. Lisa has an excellent repertoire of creative arts skills to bring to your children.
