PHOTOGRAPHY BY DEAF DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHER - STEVEN WELLMAN

LOOK AT ME is the name of an Arts and Culture for development project delivered in
South India in 2004.  Lisa Mills, an international Deaf Theatre Director and Consultant,
delivered this project with support from the British Council. 

This successful and unique project involved delivery of Lisa’s distinctive brand of visual
theatre workshops for deaf youth and adults.  

Lisa also raised valuable awareness of universal Deaf Issues in the hearing community
of India by way of Deaf Awareness Training.  This training sought to narrow the divide
between deaf and hearing communities and to breakdown communication barriers that
exist throughout the world today.

As well, a Deaf photographer, Steven Wellman, accompanied Lisa to visually document 
the project's processes and outcomes by means of digital photography.  

Many of the issues discussed in the Deaf Awareness Training and the stunning 
photos taken by Steven during this project provide the foundation for this unique book 
entitled as LOOK AT ME.
